Monthly doesn't mean short term

A year of protection. A clearer way to budget.

IRCC accepts qualifying health insurance that is paid in full or in instalments with a deposit. Some insurers may provide eligible payment plans. The policy still needs to satisfy the one-year minimum and all other requirements.

A monthly plan can be convenient, but only when you understand the deposit, remaining instalments, possible fees and rules if a payment is missed.

Frequently asked questions

Real questions about monthly payments, eligibility, claims and travel. Every policy has its own wording.

Can Super Visa insurance be paid monthly?

Yes, some eligible policies offer instalment billing when an initial deposit is paid. The full required insurance term still needs to be covered. The insurer’s issued policy must show valid coverage and acceptable payment arrangements under IRCC rules.

Does monthly Super Visa insurance mean I only need one month of coverage?

No. A Super Visa insurance policy generally must be valid for at least one year from the date of entry, even if the premium is collected in instalments. A one-month policy alone is not equivalent.

Is a quote enough for a Super Visa application?

No. IRCC requires proof of an actual health insurance policy. A price estimate or unissued quotation does not satisfy the insurance-document requirement.

How much insurance coverage does IRCC require?

At least CAD $100,000 in emergency medical coverage, with qualifying benefits for health care, hospitalization and repatriation. Consider higher limits where appropriate.

Can a policy come from an insurer outside Canada?

In certain circumstances, yes. An eligible foreign insurer must meet the applicable OSFI authorization and issuance criteria. Not every overseas travel insurance policy qualifies.

Are monthly plans more expensive overall?

They can have different total costs, service fees, deposit terms or administration charges. Compare the full cost of the issued policy, not only the stated monthly instalment.

What if I miss an instalment?

The insurer may suspend or cancel coverage under its contract, creating a serious compliance and medical-cost risk. Verify payment reminders, grace periods, and coverage status directly with the issuer.

Can my parents receive refunds after a Super Visa refusal?

Many insurers have visa-refusal cancellation procedures, but documentation, administration charges and refundable amounts differ. No refund amount is guaranteed without the contract details.

Do diabetes or high blood pressure automatically make a parent ineligible?

Not necessarily. Coverage depends on age, medical history, medication changes, insurer definitions of stability and policy exclusions. Review the exact medical questionnaire and wording.

Does the Super Visa allow a five-year stay?

Generally, Super Visa holders can stay up to five years per visit, subject to border decisions and individual circumstances. The visa itself may be valid for multiple entries for up to ten years.
