The key difference is the application requirement
A Super Visa applicant is subject to IRCC-specific insurance documentary conditions, including at least one year of coverage and $100,000 minimum emergency coverage. A regular visitor is not automatically subject to those Super Visa-specific documentary rules, though private medical protection can still be important.
How long may a visitor stay?
A regular visitor is generally admitted for a shorter period, often up to six months absent a different authorization. A qualifying Super Visa can allow stays of up to five years at a time, subject to the applicable approval and entry decision.
Comparing insurance plans
Both types of policy can offer medical emergency benefits, deductibles and pre-existing-condition restrictions. The correct category matters to eligibility, waiting periods and permitted policy lengths. Confirm the policy is appropriate for the traveller’s actual status.
